Imagine if you had taken a different turn in your life that would’ve placed you on a different path with different values, goals, and even your social situation. If you had made a different choice you may not know the people you know and you might have ended up a completely different person!

Everything happens for a reason, right?

When I first opened up TFW Doylestown I was running the program out of the Plumsteadville Firehouse Banquet Hall. There was barely any equipment and there were barely any people, BUT there was one particular individual who came in with his mom in the beginning.

After countless attempts of his parents trying to get him to work out he finally decided to commit. Reluctant at first because there were just a couple of barbell racks and dumbbells the gym didn’t look like much. Especially running out of the side of a hall, but that’s the day Dan’s Transformation began.

Now like most 15 year olds at the time you could probably find Dan sitting in his basement playing video games all day and snacking uncontrollably for countless hours at a time.1527009_10202590634425479_951650021_n

“I didn’t really understand what I was doing to my body as I was so narrowed into me being the hero of my story due to the countless fantasy games I played”

I thought I was INVINCIBLE

“I realized now that weighing in at 266lbs at 15 years old was a series of bad choices, one after the other. I thought I was a beast, but in reality I didn’t look well or feel well at all.”

Classes were small in the beginning and there was only a handful of people at the time, one of which was his mother who supported him EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. You could see it Dan’s eyes that there was something about the program that was speaking to him in more ways than I would have known at the time.

“There was something about this small space was strangely inviting to me”

Every one has goals, all of them vary, but there are always common denominators…No matter what someone wants to either Lose Fat, Build Muscle, or Feel Good and in most cases its all of the above. Most 15 year olds don’t set TRUE personal goals for themselves, but Dan had a few.

“For the FIRST TIME in my life I was ready to give exercise a chance”

Dan wanted to lead from the front like me, his coach. He wanted to learn more about the body, the functions, the exercises, and especially the lifestyle choices that would directly effect him.

“My goal was to be stronger than Coach Mike one day, it hasn’t happened yet, but it keeps me motivated to be like him”

Goals are easily manageable if you remember the S.M.A.R.T acronym:

Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Time bound

When you create your goals based off of these 5 words you’ll know just how to be successful and stay successful. Fast forward three years and Dan now weighs in at 217lbs, can deadlift  400lbs, and has the ability to squat 300lbs. These numbers aren’t meant to impress, these are meant to show that with hard work comes great rewards.

“I have damn good time doing it while feeling like a million bucks”

He’s very humble and Did I mention his confidence sky rocketed too?

When you surround yourself with people on the same mission as you, you’ll feel just as good. TFW is like a family and we constantly watch out for each other because you never know who is having a rough day or who may need a shoulder to lean on.

“When you feel good physically, you feel good mentally too.”

Dan was able to become the man he is today because of the positive influences of his home life as well as his TFW life. He is not only a certified volunteer firefighters, a certified EMT, but a certified bad ass as well. As the years have passed I have seen Dan’s goals change and shift to adapt to where he is heading on his journey.

“Getting in to shape isn’t just for me, its for my family, friends, and everyone on the other side of a 9-1-1 phone call and that’s my real goal.”
