When he first came into TFW he had just gotten out of a bad relationship, and shortly after his father was diagnosed with cancer for the 2nd time in about 2 years.
With the weight of the world coming down on him he was left emotionally broken, and had essentially lost all confidence in himself , which made his self-esteem plummet
He’d stopped taking care of himself, and had lost nearly 20lbs (which he didn’t need to). Like most people he had been paying for a gym membership, but rarely used it and when he did, it was 20 minutes of nonsense and left.
John was tired of just “going through the motions”
John and I had known each other since college, I had seen everything going on in his life and begged him to come and try out TFW. I knew being around positive people and a somewhat familiar environment would be the boost he needed.
“I had nothing to lose”
Finally, he gave it a try, and the rest is history.
“I began caring about what I was eating (or not eating). I found myself being more motivated than ever to make myself better. I found an outlet to let our all of my frustrations, instead of sitting at home, sulking.
“TFW was the ultimate stress relief”
“Here I am today, nearly 31 years old, and in the absolute best shape of my life”
John was not new to lifting when he first came to TFW.
“My dad’s favorite past time was lifting, and it was the main thing we did together as I was growing up. So when I came in, I felt confident in my previous knowledge. The first thing I learned was really the importance of form.”
“For too long I had been cheating myself by attempting weights that were probably too high, and I was cheating my way through reps and sets.”
His biggest motivator and what helps him stay successful? his “familia.” The biggest issue and one of the reasons so many fail with exercise is a lack of support and that’s not the case here. Your family will support you through all your endeavors whether they be fitness, progressional, health, any struggle you have; your family has your back.
Every person has a shared interest or common goal, to make each other better better. Gender, age, backgrounds, strength level, etc. doesn’t matter. We are constantly cheering each other on and It goes well beyond the gym walls. If you need a helping hand, every single member WILL be there for you, as you would be for them.
John’s biggest piece of advice would be this:
“For anyone considering joining would be to not be afraid of leaving your comfort zone.”
A lot of what you are going to do will be brand new to you, and that can be scary. You will eventually see how everything you do will help you in achieving your next goal, and there is no better feeling than hitting a goal.
” I’ve never really been a part of other program per se, but I have had a personal trainer before. It is pretty remarkable that I feel like my individual goals and needs are being attended to more in our group setting than they have ever been during a 1 on 1 personal training session. ”
What has TFW done for me? What hasn’t it done for me?
